Tattoo Aftercare

1. If I gave you a clear sticker bandage for your tattoo, you can keep it on for up to three days. Fluid and ink buildup under the bandage is normal. If the bandage starts to come off, leak, itch, burn or cause any visible irritation take it off. You can shower with the bandage, but no soaking or sweating into it. Bandage removal is easiest in the shower, letting warm water run into the bandage as you remove it slowly and carefully. Take your time and don't hurt your skin!

2. If I covered your tattoo with Saran Wrap, remove it after a couple hours or when you get home.

3. After bandage or Saran removal, wash your tattoo with clean hands, warm water, and liquid antibacterial soap. I like Dial Liquid Gold best! Do not use bar soap.

4. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.

5. Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor or regular non-scented body lotion. Don't put sunscreen on your fresh tattoo. Don't over-moisturize; it's important for your tattoo to breathe. I usually use aquaphor the first week, then switch to lotion.

6. Repeat this process morning and night for the first two weeks. Repeat mid day if necessary, like if the tattoo is exposed to dirt, heavy sweating, a pet licks it, etc.

7. No swimming, soaking or sun tanning the tattoo for at least two weeks. Three is ideal. Your tattoo will get itchy in the first week or so of healing. Do not itch or pick at it, just let it flake off naturally like a sunburn.
